Dispatch & Emergency Response | The Heart of Public Safety
Each position at any department is very important and it takes each puzzle piece to complete the puzzle to the fullest.
Whether it's a fire, a car accident, domestic dispute, reckless driver, or even a lost pet, every emergency call deserves to be treated with the utmost importance and professionalism. When a citizen makes that call, it’s the most crucial thing in their life at that moment. If it weren’t important to them, they wouldn’t have made that call.
It is a dispatcher’s job to answer that emergency call with confidence, calmness, knowledge, and professionalism. Once the emergency call is made it is the dispatcher’s responsibility to gather ALL of the information needed to get the appropriate first responders to your aid. A First Responder is made up of Firefighters, Medical Personnel, Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement, and sometimes Citizens of the Community. All the while the dispatcher must vigilantly monitor the radio because they are the lifeline of the first responder communicating their business to the dispatch center. It is important for the dispatcher to know where each first responder is at ALL times. This responsibility could mean the difference in a first responder going home to their family – or not. On scene, a responder depends on the dispatcher to monitor their safety, provide updates, and conduct timely status checks. It is pertinent that the dispatcher provide accurate and timely information to the first responder each time a radio call is made. Each call requires the dispatcher to accurately document all information for numerous reasons, including future court proceedings. This needs to happen on each and every call.
A dispatcher is essentially the glue that holds all the pieces together. A dispatcher is truly the lifeline for both the citizens of the county and the first responders responding. This position should not be taken lightly, and it is not a position for the faint of heart. This is a serious position and should be taken as such when you are dealing with human life.
People’s lives depend on the Sheriff’s Department having adequately trained staff and proper equipment at all times. This is the full responsibility of the Sheriff. Nothing less is acceptable!
As your Sheriff, I will work diligently with the city and county officials to ensure that Little River County Dispatchers set the benchmark for excellence.
I am humbly asking for your support and your vote for Sheriff & Collector on March 3, 2026.
